The Gavle Goat was set on fire, a few hours ago. At 02.54 PM someone could not let him stay alive. He was happy to celibrate his birthday yesterday, but of course very sad that he did'nt survive Christmas this year.
We will not replace him with a new goat, but wish all of you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Bye for now...

Did Little Brother survive?
SvaraRaderaWill Kelton

SvaraRaderaReally sad that Boken was burnt down so quickly this year...before Christmas and before many people had even had time to visit and take pictures...I dislike the tradition of burning Boken down but for someone to do it within a week of it arriving is just sad....my children and I were enjoying getting into the Christmas spirit driving past Boken every evening and he was brightning up what so far has been a pretty dull and grey winter...
SvaraRaderaSTICK TO TRADITION.
SvaraRaderaJag är så IN I HELSKOTTA FÖRBANNAD! 2:a december??
oh, no!
SvaraRaderaI wish he had survived a bit longer! ;__;
SvaraRaderaThis is just to sad, bye GG :(
SvaraRaderaYes bocken har brunnit! Nu blir det en vit jul!
SvaraRaderaMvh. Alla städer söder om Gävle
Well, there are some very, very sick and hateful folks in this world!!! What an awful thing to happen. I hope that whoever did this spends many tortuous years on this earth!
SvaraRaderaVivian
Is it possible that the Gavle Goat Committee could reconsider and put the Gavle Goat back together for this Christmas? That would make for a wonderful Christmas for so many around the world!!
SvaraRaderaVivian
Well, there goes any motivation I had to send Christmas cards this year. Screw it, this holiday season has been garbage so far anyway.
SvaraRaderaI'm so disappointed. I just put out my straw goats and my official mascot little brother goat last night and then heard about this this morning. I'll admit part of the fun is waiting to see if the goat gets burned, but not this early!! Even though big brother is gone, can we still get updates/photos of little brother? please?!
SvaraRaderaSuggestions! Can the webcam still stay up so we can observe Swedish Christmas/wintertime from afar?! Or possibly focus the cam on baby brother? You will be dearly missed, my Gavlebocken!
SvaraRaderaSo sad!!! One thing that brings happiness to so many had to get destroyed by an idiot!!! Please rebuild, it's only Dec 2. I know he's expensive, but I'm sure people from around the world would be glad to donate for his rebuild!!Please set-up a fund where we can donate to his rebuild and SECURITY guards!!

Tycker det är dålig reklam för Gävle. Bättre med en stor, fin och lysande.
SvaraRaderaOh how sad.
SvaraRaderaI'm so sorry to see that the goat was burned, especially so early before Christmas, every year my family so enjoys checking in on the goat via your webcam. We do wish you were able to replace him with a new goat to brighten the holiday. Bob - Kansas City Mo
SvaraRaderahow cruel :( why can't people just leave things for the enjoyment of others.
SvaraRaderaIt's my birthday today (same age as bocken), it's spoiled my day :(
That is very sad news to hear. I am travelling to Sweden later this month and I had planned to visit Gävle and see the goat. With so many places to see, I now won't be going to visit. Tourism will be down now. I hope the vandal is happy to ruin other's Christmas' traditions.
SvaraRaderaI want you to know that there is a group of us here in America who are very sad to see the goat burn. It brings us joy in a dark time of the year. We are all knitters who love sheep and goats on the Ravelry.com site in the Juniper Moon Farm group. We love you, Gaveleboken! See you next year!
SvaraRaderaI'm very, very sad that the goat was torched already. I have been getting ready for Christmas each year with the webcam on so I can watch the goat while I write cards and do other Christmas chores. This year will not be the same.

SvaraRaderaMaggie of New York I must take issue with your blog entry. There are some spelling mistakes....You do not spell ARSONIST or CRIMINAL as 'idiot'.
SvaraRaderaI must also draw the attention to those who feel that this act of Arson has promoted publicity globally towards Galve. I can report to you that not 'one' word has been mentioned of this act in the British Media or press.
I also feel that what would make good press coverage globally is the apprehending of this arsonist and he or she could be made to clear up their 'mess' infront of a global audience.
What about Lillebror? Is he okay at least?!
SvaraRaderaIt figures. I go visit friends for a few days, and our dear Gävlebocken gets torched in my absence. :( How can anyone be so cruel to such a humble goat?
SvaraRaderaIt makes me sad that he won't see Lucia or Christmas this year. I can only hope that the goat-murder will be brought to justice.
Some of the comments seem to be from people in towns surrounding Gavle and they say they are glad that this burning happened. Could someone tell us why people in those towns would be jealous of the Gavle Goat? I know the Gavle Goat cannot answer this question, but hopefully the Gavle Goat Committee could answer.
SvaraRaderaVivian
Mark you can have issues with whatever you want! These "criminals" are almost never brought to justice!!!
SvaraRaderaI don't think it's humorous to destroy something that so many people get pleasure from and which also helps the local economy and costs a lot to build! Some say it's "tradition"..sad world we live in..lots of broken hearted children(and adults)from this act. I call them idiots, because they think it's funny to do this terrible deed...so along with arsonist, criminal..idiots fit right in. I do agree wholeheartedly with your last sentence. However, that will never happen! Happy Holidays.

"Mjukisbocken kostar 149 kronor, varav 25 kronor går till bockens bevakning." Well, that was money well spent, wasn't it? Please could you publish in VERY LARGE LETTERS the name of the wonderful organization responsible for guarding the goat this year?
SvaraRaderaFrom Austin Texas we send our condolences. We have enjoyed seeing the goat on webcam in past years. We miss him! Shame on the arsonist!!!!!!!!!!!!
SvaraRaderaAfter all, it is always known that the Swedes are strange, but people in Gävle are very strange. They do not know how negative thing goat burning is for the city! I will never in my life to visit in Gävle!!!!! You are awful people! Someone wanted to win money in gambling and therefore goat burned. I'm sure about this, because no sensible person would never do something like burning!
SvaraRaderaI´m very angry! I loved the goat. It was sign of Christmas.
Mia from Finland
Unbelievable! What is WRONG with people?
SvaraRaderaBurning this annual goat has become a competition to see how quickly it came be accomplished?
Sorry Boken..... I hope to live to see you next you.
If it's wrong to burn the goat then it's doubly wrong to do it so early - December had barely started!
SvaraRaderaWe like the goat here in the UK and it had become something of a tradition to watch it on the webcam in my house. My young children had just started showing an interest so it's very disappointing that his visit this year was so short. And why isn't another one being built this year?
SvaraRaderaits not a tradition! Fucking idiots!
SvaraRaderaSo, so sorry I did not find out until now. :-( I have a mascot goat that I bought last year and I will break the sad news to him tonight here in Wisconsin, USA. I'm glad that he survived last year.

So sad to hear the Gavle goat was burned again...and so early this year :( !
SvaraRaderaI know he brings a lot of light, hope and happiness to the season and to the people...why this tradition of burning it ?
If it has to be ...wait until after Christmas !!!
I'm sad the goat was set on fire, but every year I read your blog. The Yule Goat will come again, and so will we.
SvaraRaderaMerry Solstice! Happy New Year!
idioter. det kostar väl av offentliga medel. Löjligt löjligt,
SvaraRaderaHow incredibly sad!
SvaraRaderaBut it speaks volumes what's wrong with not only Sweden but most all societies these days.
